Barcamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees, usually centered around design & technology topics. That said you can talk about anything, host a panel, get feedback on products or design…. just no pitching!
Presentations are up to 45 minutes long, 10 minutes of Q &A or network and 5 for attendees to get to the next session. You're welcome to sit in on a presentation or hang around in the lounge area and talk; the event is for you and you determine how to spend your time. If you run a presentation, we don't care how you run it--so long as you don't get us in trouble! Give a monologue, a Q&A, host a panel, demonstrate a product, process, or skill, create a round table; it's your topic, your presentation, your audience. If people didn't want to spend 45 minutes on your topic, they wouldn't be there.
Certainly you have some relatively unique experiences. What do you do for a hobby? What's something you managed to fix that you're proud of? It doesn't matter if the height of your accomplishment is playing a video game, creating great social media content, photography, or if you've built something cool in your garage; if people aren't interested, they won't show up at your talk. If they are, they will.
Sure you are! If you know the first thing about a subject, you know more than people who don't. And, yes, people who know more than you will probably attend your presentation. Interact with them; you both have something to learn from each other. Chances are, if you're both really interested in a subject, you'll find yourselves looking for each other in the lounge, later.
Spread the word with our marketing materials. If you want to help plan the event, we are always looking for volunteers willing to give up a few hours of their time to help us make it a great event. Reach out to people who you think would be good speakers and encourage them to give a talk. Help promote the event through social media links ask people and business you know to sponsor so we can keep the event free.
